Accountability:              Executive Director Girls Inc. of Halton

Hours of Work:              30 - 40 hours per week – Monday through Friday, 7AM – 6:30PM

Location:                      Our Lady Victory Elementary School, 540 Commercial, Milton

                                       Girls Inc. of Halton 450 Bronte St. South, Milton

 

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES: The summer student positions will work with Girls Inc. of Halton Camp Directors and the Executive Director to help implement a summer camp program that supports the vision and mission of Girls Inc.

 

YOUTH CAMP COUNSELLOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Participates in planning and implements activities for camp sites.

·         Participates in room set-up, preparation, take down and clean up and decoration of site.

·         Ensures materials and equipment needed for camp sessions and activities are ready and available.

·         Supervises children during program activities and field trips, in a fast paced environment.

·         Assists children to resolve conflicts.

·         Informs Camp Directors, and Executive Director of problems, concerns, needs, trends and other situations as necessary.

·         Encourages agency staff to be creative and innovative.  Inspires and motivates them to explore new and different approaches and resources to keep programs flexible and responsive so that the needs of girls are met most effectively.

·         Maintains confidentiality.

·         Maintains positive relationship and contact with parents/guardians regarding agency program initiatives.

·         Initiates and co-operates in inter-agency collaborative efforts that serve girls as an advocate for girls in the community.

·         Works collaboratively with other staff to meet agency goals and achieve staff objectives.

·         Participates in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives.  Attends and participates in Girls Incorporated functions as agreed upon with Director.

·         Performs other duties as assigned

 

MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INTERN

·         Microsoft office proficient

·         Social Media messaging and delivery experience

·         Fundraising ideas and planning skills

·         Bilingual preferred but not required.

·         Maintains confidentiality.

·         Maintains positive relationship and contact with parents/guardians regarding agency program initiatives.

·         Initiates and co-operates in inter-agency collaborative efforts that serve girls as an advocate for girls in the community.

·         Works collaboratively with other staff to meet agency goals and achieve staff objectives.

·         Participates in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives.  Attends and participates in Girls Incorporated functions as agreed upon with Director.

Performs other duties as assigned

 

STEM LEAD

·         Love for science, technology, engineering and or math and sharing insights with others.

·         Experience developing experiments for groups of children.

·         Supervise children during program activities.

·         Assists children to resolve conflicts.

·         Encourages agency staff to be creative and innovative.  Inspires and motivates them to explore new and different approaches and resources to keep programs flexible and responsive so that the needs of girls are met most effectively.

·         Maintains confidentiality.

·         Maintains positive relationship and contact with parents/guardians regarding agency program initiatives.

·         Initiates and co-operates in inter-agency collaborative efforts that serve girls as an advocate for girls in the community.

·         Works collaboratively with other staff to meet agency goals and achieve staff objectives.

·         Participates in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives.  Attends and participates in Girls Incorporated functions as agreed upon with Director.

·         Performs other duties as assigned

 

SOCIAL WORK LEAD

·         Passion for implementing well rounded programs for all children.

·         Experience developing exercises for groups of children.

·         Supervise children during program activities.

·         Assists children to resolve conflicts.

·         Encourages agency staff to be creative and innovative.  Inspires and motivates them to explore new and different approaches and resources to keep programs flexible and responsive so that the needs of girls are met most effectively.

·         Maintains confidentiality.

·         Maintains positive relationship and contact with parents/guardians regarding agency program initiatives.

·         Initiates and co-operates in inter-agency collaborative efforts that serve girls as an advocate for girls in the community.

·         Works collaboratively with other staff to meet agency goals and achieve staff objectives.

·         Participates in periodic assessment of own performance, develops own goals and objectives.  Attends and participates in Girls Incorporated functions as agreed upon with Director.

·         Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must currently be a registered student and will be a student in fall 2017. (University/College)
  2. Familiarity with Halton Region and services for children and their families.
  3. Training and work experience in delivering programs to children, ages 8 – 14 preferred.
  4. Must possess leadership skills, enthusiasm,  internal motivation, initiative and a positive attitude
  5. Skilled in working with diverse populations, inclusive and anti-oppressive; ability to facilitate cooperatively and work as a team.
  6. Able to communicate with children and foster their involvement and participation in program planning, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.
  7. Able to inspire, stimulate, and encourage creativity and innovation.
  8. Familiar with a pro-girl, feminist perspective.
  9. Reliable transportation is required.
  10. First aid trained or willing to be trained.

Candidates will be required to provide a current police check upon hire.

Flexibility required, working variable hours including potential occasional evenings/weekends.

 

PREFERRED:

            Candidates who are currently students in Social Work, Social Service Worker, Humanities, Nursing, Education, Business, Engineering, Tech, Teaching or related fields.
