About Us
Girls Incorporated of Halton, the first Canadian affiliate of Girls Inc. (www.girlsinc.org), has been providing mentoring to all girls from the ages of 5-18 years since 1984. In 2002, the Board of Directors stayed true to the mission of providing programming specific to all girls by becoming the first Canadian affiliate of Girls Incorporated. Girls Inc. has a 142 year history of providing gender-specific programming to all girls inspiring them to be strong, smart and bold. Initially, the Girls Incorporated movement started in England during the Industrial Revolution as a response to the needs of a new working class: young women who had migrated from rural communities in search of newly available job opportunities in textile mills and factories.
Girls Inc. has developed over the years and evolved into a parent organization which strives to provide programming which is current, relevant and motivating to all girls. We, in Halton, are fortunate in being able to bring to Halton, very special, innovative programs which are age-appropriate and wide-ranging in scope from Operation SMART™ (science, math and related technologies) to Friendly Peersuasion™. They are researched-based programs where girls are encouraged to take positive risks, interact with female role models and the needs and interests of girls are addressed.
We currently serve over 300 girls but have a very long waiting list. The drop out drop-out rate from our programming is less than 1%, letting us know that we're on the right track.Help us to continue helping all girls to be strong, smart and bold.
